Went there yesterday for the first time, had a burger and an old fashion double dog. The food was good, I really like the hot dog. It was probly the best one I have had from a place around here. The burger was good also. I was excited to see that they have Green River on the soda fountain. Only thing is, make sure when someone walks in, that the cashier isn't standing behind the counter on is phone. It took him a minute for him to even realize that we were standing right in front of him.

Very very good food and the fries are amazing. I got the 2 dog special which is decently priced and how could you not love Green River soda which is one of a handful of places that serve it. Hot dogs are truly chicago style. I would like to see hamburgers there eventually as that is the only thing it seems like it's missing. 4 stars instead of 5 because the wait was a little long but the line was pretty long. You can tell the owner cares about his business after asking everyone how their food was.

Good food! I had the hotdog and my man had the Italian sausage. Fries were fresh and hot. The menu is limited, but that's okay--do what you know and do it right. The only thing is suggest is to ask the name for the order...or use a number system. It's strange to be notified your meal is ready by having it hollered out to the dining room. If/when they get busy, this could cause confusion. Yes, I'm nit-picking. Will def come back and support local business.

Been there twice, some obvious growing pains one would expect from a new place, like inconsistent level on the fries, which are great but depending on when you go you might end up with lots of little pieces instead of other times when they just totally rock.. a menu with gravy bread, nice... have had the dog special and fries, the tailgater brat, and the Italian sausage (huge portion), all good.... do I prefer it over the other local places, yep, sure some people will think its expensive, these are the same people that are arguing over a nickel at a garage sale and think anything above free is pricey, ignore them... they need to get consistent on the fries, manage orders better as mentioned by others and for their sake get a second inside door or something to control cold coming in, I believe we will have winter again this year... Welcome the city to the burbs

I went to Chicago Grill for the first and LAST time. I asked for them to put the fries separate from the hot dog and was told that this was the recipe and could not give you fries separately. Yet I was able to tell them what I wanted on my hot dog. I said that since this is their policy, I will not return. Staff simply said in what I thought was a sarcastic "have a nice day". What ever happened to give the customer what they want!!!???

I visit here often as it is near my house. The hotdogs come with great tasting fresh cut fries and have a little crisp snap when you bite into them! I would definitely recommend the hot dogs or the beef, both are amazing. I would also recommend eating the food there if you are able to though because the hot dogs will actually be hot, the fries won't be soggy, and it just tastes better. There is plenty of seating inside and they keep the place really clean. The wait for the food is a little longer than I'm used to but I am OK with it since I know my food is being cooked fresh when I order it, not sitting extra long on the grill or under a warmer. The best part of the place is the staff. They are extremely friendly and it seems they genuinely care about the customer. The worst part about the place is that parking can be hard to get some times during the busy hours. I have never been unable to find a spot but it does get quite full.

Finally, a truly great place for a perfectly seasoned beef with amazing home made giardiniera, a hot dog with a great snap and fresh toppings. There's also a maxwell street polish, bratwurst etc. The fries are fresh cut, fresh fried, and amazing. Come support Chicago Grill, they truly are special!! The service is great, the prices are too, as is the quality! Easily the best in northern Illinois! We are thrilled to have them.

Food is good. Luv the fries but the service and wait is horrible. They need more people to work the grill. I waited over 25mins for my food. Hotdog and fries??? Too long of a wait!!

I wanted to love this place, but the Chicago style hot dogs were just OK. No poppyseed buns, hot dogs were very thin with tough skins. I like the Chicago style hot dog at Sonic's better.

This place is related to buds subs. Its another good place to eat. They have good hotdogs. It's a good place to bring the family. The people are nice

Based on earlier reviewers comments I tried this place out. Conveniently located in front of a movie theater and next to an ice cream shop and a Starbucks. Unfortunately I have to add Chicago Grill to the list of many mediocre hot dog places in the area. If you were looking for something special like a Chicago SUPPERDAWG you'll be disappointed. Nice enough people and clean looking but nothing special here. Dog came wrapped in the same paper wrap as French fries, a real mess! After picking the fries out of the trimmings the dog tasted good but not great and was warm at best. Fries were not evenly cooked and some were soggy.

How do you have a chicago grill hotdog place without having a Chicago style hotdog on the menu? Only toppings are mustard, relish, onion, and sport peppers. You can get celery salt on request. Where are the tomatoes and pickle? The fries were good but a it salty. Plus it took 15 minutes for them to make the order (one hotdog and a beef). Expected more but was disappointed on the limited options.

Great place to grab a delicious hot dog and awesome fries! Plus their Italian Beef is incredible. Great service, great food, great location! Go and check out Chicago Grill.

Very delicious fries and quality ingredients to match. I will be coming back very often for nutritional intake.

We love it here. Love the hot dogs and the fries are great. What makes them stand out is how friendly they are. I can't think of the last time someone asked how my day was while I was ordering lunch.

I've been waiting for a place like this for some time..really delicious hot dogs. Perfect Chicago-style food. Reasonable prices. I'm getting hungry just typing this. The owner is a really friendly guy, and I'll definitely be stopping in often!

Unfortunately there's nothing "Special" about a $7 hot dog special.

  • Matt N.

Nothing special, beef was decent good taste better than most. Barely enough beef to fill the average roll you see everywhere else. Fries are like wendy's fries without all the salt. It's just a potato, why almost $5 for a cheese fry? Brat was okay, johnsonville kind, could buy 5 or 10 of those for the price if on sale. Got it home and had about 5 little grilled onions on it with barely enough mustard to see it. Bun was a 8 for a $1 hot dog bun you could buy at any grocery store. Didn't even get a drink after seeing the prices for everything. I live right next to it and would rather drive down Algonquin to another place for my hangover food. Sorry, will last a year at best, once the novelty of a new place wears off unless they change the prices to reflect the minimal menu, average food, and minimal toppings. Gene n Judes style hotdog for $1 more than the real thing. lol

We had beef sandwiches and the Chicago-style hot dog, along with fries. Everything was excellent. The beef was very tender and nicely seasoned. Will go back again. We are always happy to support a local small business.

Pricey and not very clean. The easiest thing a restaurant can do is keep it clean. Clean the tables not just brush off the crumbs. Clean the floor in the kitchen, yes we can see it. $8 for 2 hot dogs and bits of fries. I love homemade fries but we all got the tiny bits, no long fries. Can't believe that they didn't notice when they wrapped our food.

  • Michael H.

Thought we would try out the new place and wasn't very impressed. $9.00 for the 2 hot dog special? Rather expensive for 2 hot dogs and what was supposed to be a medium fry was more like a small fry and med. Drink .

As a huge fan of Maxwell Street Polishes of Chicago, I can't get enough of them. Going to Chicago every time I want one, however, is not a good option, and I have been searching for a place to indulge my cravings nearby. Enter Chicago Grill. My friend told me it was run by the same man as Bubs Subs, an excellent sandwich shop, so I gave it a try. The line was a bit long but it was a beautiful saturday afternoon and we really did not have to wait all that long. I got a meal with up sized drink, fries, and a cup of cheese. Let me start by saying how great their fries are! You can eat them with or without cheese as they are delicious either way, but I recommend to at least try them with cheese. This brings me to the polish. It was phenomenal! Perfect amount of mustard and onions and just the right crunch to it with the peppers and char on the sausage. It was VERY juicy and I would suggest being careful where you aim it. The only issue we had was we ordered 4 up sized meals and instead of 4 big fries they gave us 6 regular (with another 2 regulars worth in the bottom of out bag) so we had absolutely nothing to complain about. Service is friendly and they move as quickly as possible to satisfy all the customers. Definitely give this place a shot.

Where's the celery salt?! Actually this place is one of the better hot dog joints in the area. With Chicago in their name you would defiantly think they would have celery salt but oh well. Fresh cut fries are not my thing but that being said I did enjoy these. Fairly clean place with good service, even on a busy Friday night. Worth a stop for dog lovers.

Time for an update!!! Since the addition of burgers I've been back to Chicago Grill now a bunch of times. The burgers here are VERY good, fresh, homemade and great beef flavor. Not to mention they are a huge 1/2 lb. (They do take 10-15 minutes to make so don't expect a quick pick up and go) My only gripe is they need more options like bacon, other cheeses (merks) and maybe other toppings. The fries here are still the best in the whole area, bar none. Fresh cut, amazing potato flavor. The beefs are ALWAYS good, always. Why not 5 stars then? Great burgers, beefs, and hotdogs... Well, it is a bit pricey despite everything and 11$ for a burger, fries and drink is a lot and because of that I can only come once in a while. If everything was priced more comparible to competitors then I'd probably come more. Lastly, they don't take phone orders which is a shame since the burgers take so long. I'd rather call it in and come pick it up. Come on Chicago Grill, take some phone orders. :)

Went there today for lunch with my son We ordered hot dogs and fries. I give the hot dogs 1 star. Bun was soggy and fell apart while I was eating it .i will give the fries 4 stars they were great . But the most disappointing thing was the employees. It took a few minutes to place order because the guy taking orders was on his cell phone.we were only one in line Then it took 10 min to get order because the guy making order was on his cell phone. Not sure I would go back

We ordered burgers. Asked for them medium rare. Was told they only do them med well to well. I found it astonishing that they boast their burgers & won't make them to order. I won't tell people how hostile they are to criticism & they delete less than flattering comments. But I just did. You can't delete them all. If you cook a burger med well to well, people won't pay your prices & just go to mcd's It was dry and tasteless. To me.

I love this place. The food is always good and it's so nice to have real fresh cut fries in our town! The owner takes pride in his business and it shows in the quality of the food. I'd recommend either hot dot special or the beef, or the grilled chicken or anything on the left or right side of the menu.

This was my first time at Chicago Grill. I stopped to get dinner to bring home. My wife and I both had burgers. I had the Montreal and she the All-American. I was greeted immediately upon reaching the counter. The young man taking my order was polite and thorough. He told me how long it would take to prepare the order. It does take about 10 minutes to freshly prepare food. This ain't McDonald's, where a precooked "beef" patty is warmed up for you. When the order was complete, they called out my order, I picked it up and they thanked me, told me to enjoy the food and have a nice evening! When I got home we began to eat, the burgers were delicious!!! We each tried a bite of the others. What great burger flavor!! We also had Onion Rings that were fabulous!! I don't know if I have had better rings. These were perfectly cooked and tasted awesome!!! We will DEFINITELY return to try more items!!!

I was broken hearted when a certain place on Rt 31 changed owners and then eventually closed, thus leaving me without a good "fries and a beef" kind of place, but I am happy to say that after trying Chicago Grill for the first time last night, I think I'll recover from the loss pretty quickly. Chicago Grill is wisely located right near the newly renovated theater in Lake in the Hills (try that place out as well if you haven't lately), and makes for the perfect pre or post movie dinner. Or, just because you like good food at any time. I'm a sucker for good fries (the peanut oil here has the magic touch), but the clincher was the beef. They make their own giardiniera, and it is fantastic. By the time I got it home and was able to eat it last night, it was pretty much at room temperature. Didn't matter. I inhaled that thing in a matter of seconds, because they are doing it right at Chicago Grill. Dare I say it? Even at room temperature, this beef rivaled Portillo's and perhaps even Johnnie's. To top it off, the owner is gregarious and happy to talk to his customers. I'll be back again. And again. And again...

The burger was tasty but over cooked to well done. Their menu says cooked medium. I asked for medium rare. A over cooked burger is not a good burger. A well done burger is even worse. Theses burgers are made to order and watching the cook. He presses on the burger, while on the grill. This presses out all the juices and leaves you a dry well done burger. They call them selves a burger place. With all the choices today. If you're going to charge $8.00 for a burger. It better be a damn good, cooked to perfection burger. I would also recommend uniforms. It doesn't cost that much and adds professional look. I will give another chance because it was tasty. I hope the cook gets trained properly or people will only come once and not return. The next thing you know. It's another failure in the restaurant business.

Tried this place last week & the burgers were really good ! They make them fresh and put seasoning in the meat , & they are also really big . The fresh cut fries were really delicious I'm a fresh fry kind of person . The only thing I didn't like is the prices they are pretty expensive about 13$ for a meal so that was a big turn off other than that food is great

Great location by theatre and it has a clean, fresh atmosphere... High quality hot dog and super fresh condiments, bun steamed perfect...everything done well. Fries are top notch..fresh cut and cooked perfect.

Id give these guys 4 stars cause the've finally brought a decent hot dog to town but my God they gotta pick up the pace. I watch intently every time I place an order and these guys just gotta move faster back there. A basic order of plain hot dogs should take no more than 1 minute to put together...come on! Ill even give you 2 minutes ....but 5 min minimum...thats gotta get better cause its kept me from going before.

I am irrationally angry that people gave this place 1 & 2 stars. This is the best hot dog place that i have ever been to. I love portillos - but i would come here over them. I've never been a hot-dog lover. More of a burger guy myself - this place made me fall in love with hot-dogs. Just get a hotdog with everything and trust it. NO there's no pickle spear, no theres no tomato or celery salt - MANY Old chicago stands have used this recipe for a century - but this recipe is perfect. They make the fries fresh and wrap up your fries and hotdog together, LEAVE SOME FRIES ON YOUR DOG - you might cry tears of joy after biting into this. This place is better than anywhere i've ever tried for hotdogs and fries. I am thankful and proud to have a place as good as this in a little suburb, when it tastes like it belongs in the city. Amazing food done right. Give this place a try, and you'll see.

I would give this place four and a half stars if I could. Let's get the bad part out of the way: the fries were soggy and not very good. I've only been to Chicago once before so I don't have a huge base of comparison. However, the Italian beef here is really good. Opt for the hot peppers. They are just the right amount of spicy. I went with the mozzarella instead of the cheddar sauce. Italian beef is messy enough without involving liquid dairy product. We also picked up a couple of Chicago style dogs. I prefer a larger frank. The bun to wiener ratio wasn't ideal, but I guess that's the only way to make room for all of those toppings. I would also have preferred another one or two hot peppers on my hotdog, but it was a solid offering nonetheless. If you don't have time to make it into the city for one of the beefs from those top ten lists, you'll be just fine eating here. At least that's his southern boy's opinion.

This was my first visit. I really like hot dogs and was looking forward to the Chicago 2 dog special. When I stepped up to the counter to place my order the floor right there was so sticky that I mentioned it even before I placed my order. Took about 5 min to get my dogs. Good load of French fries and they were good. Dogs were average. For me there are better hot dog stops in the neighborhood.

  • Ian L.

I was there last week & was the only person in there. I ordered a burger meal. 3 people walked in after me, got their food before me. Took 25 min to get my food. When I got it, burger was barely cooked. Stood at the counter for 10 min to show the "cook", but they were hanging out outside by the backdoor. I finally through the food in the garbage and left. Won't be back, and certainly wouldn't recommend to anyone!

This is by FAR the best place for a real hot dog anywhere near here. I grew up eating Gene & Jude's dogs about once a week (I grew up in Franklin Park, right next to River Grove). If you've never heard of Gene & Jude's, look them up - they win "best hot dog in Chicago" most of the time. Chicago Grill serves a dog that is closer to the original Gene & Jude's dog than any I've ever had. Get the depression dog for the true experience - you won't regret it. Sorry, but anyone who says otherwise either: 1) never had a true Gene and Jude's dog or 2) doesn't know a true classic when they taste it. I'm a regular now!

  • Jim W.

Great fries, but a hot dog with "everything on it" is onion relish and mustard. Where's the pickle spear, the tomatoes...ever heard of celery salt? While a sign says Vienna, these are not Vienna Beef hot dogs, 40 years of experience talking, definitely a lower grade dog. Very disappointing. Two stars for the fantastic fries. UPDATE: I got it wrong. Chicago Grill uses natural casing Vienna beef hotdogs. The selection of toppings represents the "depression hotdog" style. I received a very nice message from the owner explaining the style of hotdog they're making and the high quality ingredients they're committed to. While I truly didn't care for the hotdogs (I'm a fan of the traditional Chicago style dog), the fries were great and the fountain drinks include Green River, always a good thing.

I wish I could give this place 5 stars for the food and 0 for service. I really enjoy their hotdogs, brats, fries, burgers, etc. Especially being able to get a much loved, Gene and Jude's style dog here in Lake in the Hills! No complaints about the food at all! BUT...the service here is awful! Hire more workers because the 2 man crew working the 6:30 dinner rush on a Thursday and Friday night or on a Saturday at lunch time is just not enough! I have always waited in line to place my order and there's always people waiting for food. One guy running the grill and the other guy running the register and then helping the grill man is just not enough. They can't keep up and are only able to work on one order at a time instead of throwing burgers on the grill as they are ordered to shorten wait times. I've seen people walk out after giving up on the line to place an order and I have done it myself. I'd love to come here more often but for a counter service burger joint the service is just too slow. Plus, because the workers are so busy behind the counter, the tables are always dirty!
